What’s it like to live in East Gosford?

East Gosford is the leafy, settled neighbour of the town centre, a suburb of tree-lined streets, older brick and weatherboard homes and low-rise unit blocks tucked between Gosford proper and the Erina Creek waterway. It has long been popular with retirees and downsizers, and the census reflects that, with residents in their sixties the largest single age group. But younger families and professionals are steadily moving in too, drawn by the walkable village strip on Victoria Street and the fact that Gosford Station is a short trip away without living in the middle of the town’s apartment precinct.

The feel is quieter and more established than Gosford itself, with parks and water at the end of most streets and a strong sense of neighbourhood around the shops. People move here for a balance that is hard to find elsewhere on the Coast: genuinely central, close to the hospital, the station and the highway, yet residential enough that the loudest thing on a weekend is the cricket at Hylton Moore Oval.

East Gosford features

The Gosford Regional Gallery on Webb Street is East Gosford’s cultural landmark, hosting touring and local exhibitions across the year. Alongside it sits the Edogawa Commemorative Garden, a traditional Japanese garden with koi ponds, a teahouse and carefully raked gravel, gifted to mark the sister-city relationship with Edogawa in Tokyo. It is one of the most peaceful public spaces on the Central Coast and a favourite for wedding photos.

Victoria Street is the suburb’s high street, a short strip of cafes, a bakery, a pharmacy, boutiques and everyday services anchored by the Elanora Hotel, a long-standing local pub with a bistro and beer garden. It gives East Gosford something Gosford’s larger centre lacks: a village you can walk to for coffee, lunch and the paper.

Green space is generous. Hylton Moore Park and its oval host cricket, football and athletics through the seasons, and the reserves along Caroline Bay open onto Brisbane Water for kayaking, fishing and shady picnics. The Erina Creek foreshore and the cycleway towards Gosford make an easy flat loop for walkers and families on bikes.

Schooling options include St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School in the heart of the suburb, with Gosford’s public primary and high schools, including the selective Gosford High School and Henry Kendall High School, a few minutes away. Gosford Hospital and the surrounding medical precinct are equally close, which is part of the suburb’s appeal to older residents.

Getting around is simple. Gosford Station and the town’s bus interchange are a short drive or bus ride away for services to Sydney and Newcastle, the Central Coast Highway runs along the suburb’s edge towards Erina Fair, the region’s largest shopping centre, and Terrigal Beach and the coast are an easy drive east for weekends.
