Glendale features
Glendale is a popular suburb with locals. The City Centre shopping complex (with cinema and sports centre) is a great spot to go for your everyday needs. From supermarkets and department stores to boutique options like the Rox Box and one of only three Carl’s Jrs in NSW (the others are in Nowra and Bathurst), there’s plenty to see and do. On Saturday mornings, the covered parking is transformed to a farmer’s market full of fresh produce and local handiworks.
Lake Road, which connects Glendale to Wallsend in one direction and lakeside suburbs like Speers Point and Warners Bay in the other, is a secondary shopping hub. Here you’ll find doctors, dentists, blood centres and the Newcastle Wildflower Nursery Centre.
Parents are spoilt for choice for education. Glendale has a public primary and secondary school, with a focus on technology, as well as the private Macquarie College and the Newcastle Waldorf School. Older students also have access to the Tafe on Clare Street.
Glendale is a pretty built up suburb so there’s not much green space. There’s a creek with a neighbouring reserve, a playground on Clarence Street and the Alfred Micropark, but it’s also not far to Wallsend which has ovals galore.
