Fletcher features
Fletcher is one of Newcastle’s youngest suburbs and it’s growing fast. From just 707 residents in the 2001 census to 8014 in 2021, it’s a suburb that’s designed for families and modern life.
A breakdown of home sizes by Landchecker, shows 1126 four-bedroom homes compared with just four two-bedroom homes and no one-bedroom homes.
These large homes with garden space are hard to find in one of Australia’s oldest cities, which is pushing the demand. Winding tree-lined streets give an old-fashioned feel to an otherwise very modern area. People with Scottish roots might take pleasure in some of the street names in the south of the suburb – Thistle Way surrounded by streets like Dalkeith, Hebrides, Highland, Prestwick, St Andrew, Stirling, Tartan and Loch Ness Drive.
Some people complain that Fletcher doesn’t have too many amenities, with the shopping village, the community centre and the sports oval jewels in a sparse crown. However, it’s just a five-minute drive to Wallsend which has everything else you could need – a swimming pool, library and busy shopping and dining hub. Keep driving and it’s just another five minutes to the main uni campus.
Easy access to the M1 makes it simple to get on the road to Maitland, Sydney and beyond, but otherwise you’re completely surrounded by green space, with attractions like Blue Gum Hills just a few minutes away.
