Hamilton features
Hamilton’s Beaumont Street is the beating heart of the suburb, and one of the most popular spots in Newcastle.
Busy from morning to night, Hamilton has some of the city’s best cafes, diverse restaurants and most popular bars. Whether you want a sit-down meal for date night, a quick takeaway, or a filling pub feed, there’s somewhere for you. There’s even a speciality cake shop, started by a Masterchef contestant, for those with a sweet tooth.
For music lovers, The Hamilton Station Hotel – The Hamo to locals – has one of the best gig line-ups this side of Sydney.
Mixed among all the hospitality hotspots, you’ll find independent bookstores, community hubs and everyday needs like pharmacies, hairdressers, banks and newsagents. As well as a vego-friendly IGA, there’s also an Aldi for your grocery needs.
Although there are no sports ovals here – head to neighbouring Islington or Hamilton South for those – Gregson Park is a huge green space with seasonal flower gardens, tennis courts and a playground that was upgraded in late 2024.
Bordering on Nineways and Donald Street, it’s easy to get from Hamilton to other suburbs in Newcastle and its train station means you can get to Sydney, Dungog and everywhere in between with ease.
