What's it like to live in Maryland?
Maryland is one of the suburbs on the fringes of Newcastle which means lower prices for properties with great road links to the city, the lake and the vineyards.
Young families make up a large demographic of Maryland, and the green spaces help to provide a safe and family-friendly vibe.

Maryland features
Found on the outer reaches of Newcastle LGA, Maryland is a family-friendly suburb full of green spaces and wide tree-lined streets. Add in a high number of childcare centres and private education offerings and you’ll find an area that’s great to raise kids.
The off-leash park dog park and Bill Elliot Oval, along with a few smaller reserves and playgrounds, add to the family-friendly vibes. Flanking the suburb are two huge national parks – the Hunter Wetlands on one side and Blue Gum Hills on the other.
Add to that the Maryland Neighbourhood Centre – a place that hosts regular fitness class and community events – and you start to get the feel of an area with people who care for one another.
As a newer suburb, there aren’t many businesses outside Maryland Village, which has a supermarket, bar and essential services.
However, Maryland’s location makes it easier to get around. It’s just a few minutes to Wallsend for a wider selection of cafes, restaurants and shops. It’s also sandwiched between the main roads out to Heatherbrae and the Hunter Valley. You can also easily drive into Newcastle or down to Lake Macquarie.
