Tighes Hill features
Like neighbouring Islington, Tighes Hill is a small suburb with a strong community spirit. The public school and large Tafe campus make the suburb popular with families and young renters but there are plenty of other reasons to move here.
Independent businesses make Tighes Hill stand out from others. Praise Joe is one of the best-rated cafes in Newcastle and local An Apple A Day attracts shoppers from all across the city. Like any good suburb, Tighes Hill has a longstanding pub at its core and The Royal Oak Hotel is a favourite haunt for many.
Tighes Hill borders Throsby Creek. A quick walk over the water connects with walking/cycling routes all the way through to Nobbys Lighthouse and some of Newcastle’s best beaches. Staying on the Throsby side of the creek, the off-leash park is a regular meeting point for dog owners.
It’s also a short drive to areas like Mayfield, where you’ll find a lot of chain stores and supermarkets, and Hamilton North and its street of op shops.
